Third graders observe a variety of sights within their schoolyard habitat and sitting quietly back-to-back with a partner describe what they see. The partner sketches the observations, 3rd graders compare drawings with the object described.

Young scholars examine an object in the classroom and write a description of it employing exciting language. They brainstorm and outline ideas for an original article about an event they participated in or attended.

Students write a description of an animal.  In this descriptive writing lesson, students discuss ways to write to appeal to all five senses.  Students then describe an animal in a paragraph and pair up to guess the animal.

Eighth graders write descriptively by using various adjectives in describing a friend to an English speaking pen-pal.
