Students take the spelling bee format and adapt it to provide practice in making change and work on their money skills. They simulate the process of making purchases with money and making change as necessary to complete the purchase.

Students study the penny, nickel, dime and quarter, one each day for four days, using a magnifying glass to identify the similarities. Then students discuss differences and value and learn a 'rap' to memorize values.

Learners take turns matching the appropriate shapes (listing coin values) to those with numerical values listed on them. When students are successful, they win a blank shape for their collection.
