Students jog at the beginning of the class while learning about the Appalachian Trail. They integrate math into the lesson by adding up how many miles they have run, and comparing it to distances on a real trail map.

Second graders identify all the geographical landforms along the pioneer trail. They study, and present to the class, at least one geographical landform along the pioneer trail.

Students examine the Lewis and Clark expedition. They develop skills for historical analysis. They locate a variety of geographic features encountered by the expedition, and create a timeline that documents Lewis and Clark on their journey.

Students write spelling words for the week, or review words, in boxes that are large enough for students to cut out and manipulate with ease. After cutting them out students arrange them on their desk in alphabetical order.

Fourth graders use critical thinking, evaluation, and geography skills to find alternative locations that Brigham Young could have taken the Mormons to settle.

Fourth graders explore the four regions of California and compare and contrast them, and use pictures and research information to describe how regions vary in land use, vegetation, wildlife and climate.

Students explore many of the unusual geographical features of the Amazon River region, and explain the importance of preserving the tropical rainforest.

Students explore exploring and expiditions then simlate their own on campus. They divide into small "expedition groups." Have each team report back to the class about their expeditions, using written, oral, or videotaped presentations.

Students create a travel brochure for the country of Japan.

Fourth graders draw maps of Peru and examine how Peru is a geographically diverse country.

Students gain an understanding of Peru's history. They analyze how specific ideas and beliefs have had an effect on a particular period of time and they trace the route of the Spanish Conquistadors on a map of Peru.

Students determine how geography affects how people live, work and play. They identify the different landforms in the three regions of Peru and create a travel brochure highlighting Peru's attractions.

Eighth graders visit the Virtual Earthquake Web site and complete activities that demonstrate how geologists locate the epicenters of earthquakes. The site uses actual data from historic earthquakes.

Young scholars process variety of information on how Italy became a nation, and answer series of short-answer questions on the topics discussed in class.

High schoolers are introduced to the conservation philosophy of Aldo Leopold as they discuss the importance of biodiveristy.
